How removing PDF pages works

Need to remove pages from a PDF without breaking everything else in it? Deleting a page is the easy part — keeping the rest of the document intact is where most online tools quietly go wrong. Type the pages you want removed, and the rest of your PDF comes back exactly as it was.

You type the pages the way you'd say them

Single pages, ranges, or everything from one point to the end: 2-3,5,11,14-15,25-. Reversed ranges, duplicates, extra spaces, semicolons and Arabic digits or commas are all understood, so a selection typed naturally just works instead of being rejected on a technicality.

Bookmarks are retargeted, not dropped

Every outline entry that still resolves is moved to its new page number. Entries pointing at deleted pages are removed — and where those entries had children that survived, the children are promoted one level rather than left nested under a heading that no longer exists.

Broken links are removed, never re-pointed

An internal link to a deleted page is deleted along with it. The alternative — silently re-pointing it at whichever page slid into that position — is worse than a missing link, because the reader has no way to know they were sent to the wrong place.

In testing, removing 13 pages from a 30-page document containing 10 bookmarks and 28 internal links left zero dangling links and zero dead bookmarks.

The pages you keep are never re-rendered

Surviving pages are copied at the object level, not rebuilt. Text stays selectable and searchable, fonts stay embedded, and images and vector artwork are never re-encoded — so nothing softens. Only the objects belonging to deleted pages are discarded, which is what makes the file smaller.

Mistakes are caught before they cost you

A page number outside the document, or a selection covering every page, is rejected with a clear message and your PDF's real page count — never silently ignored. Every finished file is re-opened and checked before it is handed back to you.

Not sure yet which pages to keep? Split PDF lets you preview and separate sections first, without permanently deleting anything.

What stays intact

  • Selectable, searchable text
  • Embedded fonts
  • Bookmarks, retargeted to their new page numbers
  • Internal links, retargeted — broken ones removed rather than misdirected
  • Form fields and annotations
  • Image and vector quality — nothing is re-compressed

What's next?

Once you've trimmed the file down, Compress PDF can shrink it further if size still matters, and Merge Files to PDF is there if you need to combine what's left with other documents or images.

Frequently Asked Questions

Enter the page numbers or ranges you want removed, not the ones you want to keep. You can mix single pages and ranges in one entry — for example, 2-3,5,11,14-15,25- removes pages 2 through 3, page 5, page 11, pages 14 through 15, and everything from page 25 to the end.

Single pages (5), ranges (14-15), open-ended ranges to the end of the document (25-), and multiple entries separated by commas or semicolons. Extra spaces, reversed ranges, duplicate entries, and Arabic-Indic digits are all handled automatically, so you don't need to clean up your input first.

No. Bookmarks pointing to surviving pages are automatically retargeted to their new page numbers. Internal links to deleted pages are removed rather than left pointing at the wrong content. Form fields and annotations on the pages you keep are preserved exactly as they were.

You'll need to remove the password first — this tool doesn't accept encrypted files directly. Once the PDF is unlocked, you can remove pages as normal, and you're welcome to re-protect the trimmed file afterward.
