Convert PDF to WebP online, free
WebP is the one format here that does not force a trade-off between exact and small. Ask for lossless and every page comes back pixel-for-pixel identical to what the engine rendered — the same guarantee PNG gives — but still smaller than the equivalent PNG, because WebP's lossless coding is more efficient than PNG's regardless of what is in the image. The smallest output of the three formats, measured
On a measured 100-page batch at 150 DPI, WebP came back at around 17 MB — against roughly 26 MB for the same pages as JPG, and well under the 158 MB a fully lossless PNG of that batch produces. If these pages are going onto a web page, that gap is paid by every visitor on every single load. It is the clearest reason to pick WebP over the other two for anything web-facing.
Choosing lossless or lossy
It depends what the pages are. Scanned signatures, diagrams, or anything where you cannot afford to lose a pixel should use lossless. Ordinary document pages — reports, articles, forms — usually look identical at the Recommended setting and produce a meaningfully smaller file. The optional quality field takes an exact number from 1 to 100 if you would rather not use a preset at all.
Resolution
Pages render at 150 DPI by default, putting a standard A4 or US Letter page at roughly 1250×1600 pixels. Set it anywhere from 72 to 400 depending on whether the images will be glanced at, read closely, or zoomed into.
Will WebP display everywhere?
Every browser shipped in the last several years reads WebP natively, so the old concern about whether the format will actually display does not apply to a normal website, document viewer, or app upload today. The exceptions live outside the browser: some older desktop software and email clients. If you need a format almost nothing refuses, JPG is the safer target.
Rotated pages, batches, and protected files
Page rotation and dimensions are read straight from each PDF page, not assumed uniform across the document, so a file with mixed portrait and landscape pages renders every page the right way round.
